A buzzard flies over a long valley in slow concentric circles. A valley with its forest, its meadows and its steep mountains. A gorgeous itinerary, among the Park’s most famous ones, crosses it: 900 metres of difference in level, from Civitella Alfedena up to the 1952m a.s.l. of the pass of Forca Resuni, which holds many stories and wonders in a sequence of moving sceneries. We are talking about Val di Rose, which takes its name from the wonderful flowerings of the rosehips, giving colour to the low altitude clearings in spring.

The guided hike in the Val di Rose is suitable for people in good physical condition, used to walking in the mountains for several hours on trails with moderate elevation gain (roughly around 900m in total, depending on the exact route). No specific technical skills are required, but it is recommended for hikers who have already completed moderate-level walks and wish to explore one of the Park’s most iconic areas, where landscape and wildlife meet: high-altitude meadows, beech forests, and wide-open views make the experience especially rewarding. The trail alternates shaded woodland sections with more open terrain, over varied ground. The overall duration is about 6 hours, including breaks. The pace will be adapted to the group, with stops for refreshments and, whenever possible, for wildlife observation and learning about the area’s natural features.

In the heart of the central Apennines, the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park is a place where nature still feels truly wild and quiet. Here the mountains unfold through ancient beech forests, secluded valleys, and high pastures, offering scenery that changes constantly with the light and the seasons. It is also a precious biodiversity hotspot, home to iconic species such as the Marsican brown bear, the Apennine wolf, and the Apennine chamois, alongside a local culture that has long lived in balance with the rhythms of the land. In spring and autumn, the Park is at its best: vivid colors, clear air, and increased wildlife activity make the experience even more immersive.
