Absolute silence is occasionally broken by short gusts of wind and birdsong. The sun's dazzling light pierces the sky, which is as intensely blue as the gentians. The unobstructed view extends in all directions. This is the sober, mineral world of high altitudes, or the Park above 2,000 metres. In the heart of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, Monte Marsicano, at 2,245 metres, is one of the highest peaks in the entire protected area, offering beautiful views.
The proposed itinerary features a variety of landscapes and passes through woods, valleys and rocky ridges. The Marsican peak is actually characterised by several smaller peaks and forms a large mountain complex between the Pescasseroli basin and the Scanno valley. It is also distinguished by a particular concentration of wildlife, including Apennine chamois, wolves and Marsican bears.
