Sunset on the ridges of Valle Inguagnera

From the mountain pass, the view opens wide across a vast horizon stretching from Monte Marsicano to the wild Camosciara, the Meta range, and the Comino Valley far below, already veiled in evening shadows. As the sun nears the horizon, the limestone walls of Serra Matarazzo are tinted pink and orange, and the sky above the crests is painted with ever-changing hues.

It’s not unusual to spot Apennine chamois perched on distant cliffs, or to see griffon vultures gliding silently through the crystal-clear air of sunset — completing an experience that combines nature, beauty, and deep peace. This hike is designed for those who love the discreet beauty of the Apennines, and for those seeking authentic and quiet places, far from the crowds.

ITINERARY

Meeting with the guides at Bar Ristorante La Madonnina in Opi. From there, a short car transfer to the Forca d’Acero pass, where the hike begins.The trail initially follows the mountainside, leading us into the rugged Valle Inguagnera. Over the course of the afternoon, we gradually climb the valley, reaching the rocky outcrops that overlook Val Fondillo, Serra Matarazzo, and Valle Lattara. A well-earned break at altitude gives us the chance to admire the last golden light over the Comino Valley, and to experience nature at its most poetic moment — when day fades into night and the sky glows above the mountains. The descent into the valley is planned for around one hour after sunset.
