A soft awakening will allow us to observe the “La Camosciara” Integral Reserve. This area of Abruzzo National Park is characterized by its apperance and its dolomitic structure; then, in a few hectares it has the main elements of this protected area. This is a real symbolic place and it’s fascinating in every season of the year.

Detail

The Integral Reserve established here underlines the high natural value, enriched by numerous plant and animal species present: the Lady’s Slipper, the orchid’s largest and most rare in Europe, the Pinguicula vallis-regiae and the black Pine Villetta Barrea. Tracing the creek Scerto, visit the waterfalls of the Nymphs and Tre Cannelle and observing carefully we will have the opportunity to see some of the animals that inhabit this wonderful valley.

Easy The hike has no technical difficulties, it takes place on mountain trails in wooded areas and meadows with climbs and descents of slight slope. The excursion also suitable for people who are not accustomed to go into the mountain.

Itinerary

Day 1Camosciara Integral Reserve, in the heart of the Park

After a short trip by car, we will take a pedestrian street closed to traffic until you reach the foot of the Camosciara and from there take the path that will lead us in a few minutes to go before the waterfall Tre Cannelle and shortly after that of the Nymphs.

What to bring

We reccomend you to dress in layers. Hiking boots, jacket with waterproof and windproof cap, backpack, water bottle, leggings, sunglasses, long pants and sun protection cream.

How to reach us

Pescasseroli is the most important village of Abruzzo National Park, the oldest Italian protected area; it has guaranteed a life in harmony with nature for almost a century. You can easily reach it by car through three access points. FROM ROME (Highway A24 Rome – L’Aquila): from Rome highway A24 until Pescina exit, proceed on SR83 or on SP17 until Pescasseroli. FROM PESCARA (Highway A25 Roma – Pescara): from Pescara highway A25 until Pescina exit, go on towards SR83 or towards SP17 until Pescasseroli. FROM NAPLES (Highway A1 Naples – Rome): from Naples highway A1 until Caianello exit, enter SS85 towards Venafro and then proceed on SR83 until Pescasseroli.

You can arrive by bus thanks to daily connections from Castel di Sangro and Avezzano. Check the timetable on the the website www.tuabruzzo.it. Connections by train are only until Avezzano station. For those who come from Rome it is possible to check the timetable of Prontobus company that connects Roma and Ciampino airports to Abruzzo.
