Once the snow has melted and the dazzling greens return to the beech forests and the vast pastures, the Abruzzo mountains become irrestistible. But it’s during the rest of the year that Abruzzo shows itself from its best side. As the seasons change, lights, colours and scents offer new scenarios. A big number of animal and plant species, which were once present in the whole Apennine range, nowadays find their last shelter in Abruzzo. The miraculous conservation of natural environments makes the Abruzzo mountains a truly special place, a kind of big and gorgeous permanent open-air museum, dedicated to the history of the environment and of the landscape, there for us to discover it.
In Abruzzo a third of the territory is set aside in protected areas. Three national parks, a regional park and more than 30 nature reserves. A visionary and tough decision by those who have made the environment their resource and will project Abruzzo into a major and leading role in green tourism.
Within its borders, Abruzzo keeps a variety of natural environments which you can’t find anywhere else in Europe, in equally man-made territories. Surprising and fascinating environments, able to feed our spirit of adventure. Our programmes have something for any kind of interest, and let you experience the closest contact with nature.
