The Apennine Chamois, together with the Marsican brown bear and the Wolf, is the most precious fauna of the Park and all of the Apennines. The population present in the area of Val di Rose – Valle Jannanghera has been the object of particular protection by the Park Authority in order to safeguard it. The Val di Rose – Valle Jannanghera is also one of the most important Integral Reserve within the Park, with elevated biodiversity and the presence of species of flora and fauna worthy of the utmost protection and attention.
Access to the area of Val di Rose and Valle Jannanghera will be allowed exclusively through the trails I1 e K6. Access to these itineraries will be allowed exclusively in groups with a guide during the summer season.
Each Wednesday, Friday and Sunday from June to September
Meeting with the guide at 7.30 in Civitella Alfedena, near the Wolf Visitor Center. The path move from the village and get the high pass and Forca Resuni, historical refuge used by rangers of the Park. Walking trough an astonishing wood we will reach a high viewpoint on the village of Barrea and Monte Petroso with the possibility to watch also on the Canneto valley, in the Lazio region. Lush meadows and glacial circuses characterize the Risione valley. All this mekes one of the best itinerary and triggers unforgettable emotions.

Civitella Alfedena is one of the most important village of Abruzzo National Park, the oldest Italian protected area; it has guaranteed a life in harmony with nature for almost a century. You can easily reach it by car through three access points. FROM ROME (Highway A24 Rome – L’Aquila): from Rome highway A24 until Sulmona-Pratola Peligna exit, proceed on SS17 and SS83 until Civitella Alfedena. FROM PESCARA (Highway A25 Roma – Pescara): from Pescara highway A25 until Sulmona-Pratola Peligna exit, go on towards SS17 and SS83 until Civitella Alfedena. FROM NAPLES (Highway A1 Naples – Rome): from Naples highway A1 until Caianello exit, enter SS85 towards Venafro and then proceed on SS83 until Civitella Alfedena.
You can arrive by bus thanks to daily connections from Castel di Sangro and Avezzano. Check the timetable on the the website www.tuabruzzo.it. Connections by train are only until Avezzano station. For those who come from Rome it is possible to check the timetable of Prontobus company that connects Roma and Ciampino airports to Abruzzo.
