A weekend among the immense forests of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park and a two day trekking with overnight stay in lovely hotel. Between the months of September and October, when the mating season of deers starts, this territory give you the chance to live a very interesting experience. The bell of male deers echoes in the forest during all day. The bells and the fights among male deers for the conquest of female deers allow you to immerse yourself in the deepest nature of the Park.



Moderate The hike has no technical difficulties, it takes place on mountain trails in wooded areas and meadows with easy climbs and descents.

Day 1The mating season of deers

Introduction of the guide and description of the schedule in our office at Pescasseroli (L’Aquila), Largo Molinari. In the evening there will be a short hike to hear the bells of deers and to see deers at sunset. Then, accommodation of participants in the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2A true wilderness area

Breakfast at the hotel and departure at sunrise for a high altitude itinerary. During the itinerary we will have the chance to observe these beautiful ungulates and, waiting for some time, we can see also other animals who live in this area. Then packed lunch, in the afternoon return to the valley, collection of luggage and departure of participants.

Accommodation can be organized by our tour leader in small lovely family managed hotel and refuges

What to bring

We reccomend you to dress in layers. Hiking shoes, sun hat, water bottle, backpack, long pants, hat and wool gloves, jacket, light raincoat or poncho, sun protection cream, non smelling mosquito repellent. We always recommend wearing a t-shirt to spare in your backpack.

How reach us

Pescasseroli is the most important village of Abruzzo National Park, the oldest Italian protected area; it has guaranteed a life in harmony with nature for almost a century. You can easily reach it by car through three access points. FROM ROME (Highway A24 Rome – L’Aquila): from Rome highway A24 until Pescina exit, proceed on SR83 or on SP17 until Pescasseroli. FROM PESCARA (Highway A25 Roma – Pescara): from Pescara highway A25 until Pescina exit, go on towards SR83 or towards SP17 until Pescasseroli. FROM NAPLES (Highway A1 Naples – Rome): from Naples highway A1 until Caianello exit, enter SS85 towards Venafro and then proceed on SR83 until Pescasseroli.

You can arrive by bus thanks to daily connections from Castel di Sangro and Avezzano. Check the timetable on the the website Connections by train are only until Avezzano station. For those who come from Rome it is possible to check the timetable of Prontobus company that connects Roma and Ciampino airports to Abruzzo.
