Unusual, different and with snowshoes. In addition to the charm of New Year’s Eve there is the enchantment of snowy mountains, hikes in nature, an intimate and almost exclusive atmosphere. Five days in the heart of the most ancient and renowned protected area of Italy, with the opportunity to see deers, wolves and chamoises and visits to villages rich in history and traditions.

Detail

But it’s not all you can do. Choosing a New Year’s Day in contact with nature means rediscover the rythms of life closer to your personal balance. We eat all together around the table and we will be heated by the fireplace and by a dog rose infusion or a glass of Montepulciano wine. We will tell each other stories and we will share life experiences. Beating heart of the Apennines, Abruzzo is a land full of surprises and strong ties with nature, and it can give you deep emotions and unforgattable memories.

Difficult

Moderate The hike has no technical difficulties, it takes place on mountain trails in wooded areas and meadows with easy climbs and descents.

Elevation gain

300-500 m up and down each day

Length

5-8 km each day

C’è una gioia nei boschi inesplorati, c’è un’estasi sulla spiaggia solitaria, c’è vita dove nessuno arriva vicino al mare profondo, e c’è musica nel suo boato. Io non amo l’uomo di meno, ma la Natura di più.

Itinerary

Day 1Discover the Vallis Regia

Then, abundant aperitif with local products in the “Vallis Regia” winery and overnight stay.

Day 2Lago Vivo, the heart of the Park

In the morning, after a hearty breakfast, meeting with the guide and departure for a hike. The valley of Lake Vivo, framed by the magnificent rocky amphitheaters of Mount Petroso and Mount Altare, adds some geological elements to the typically naturalistic features. In the evening, dinner and visit to the village of Civitella Alfedena and to the papier-mâché life size crib. At 9:30 p.m. we will attend to the torchlight procession that, through human figures, expresses a wishing message for new year; this festival is held in “Piazzale di Santa Lucia” square; there will be a a big bonfire and we will drink a glass of mulled wine.

Day 3Monte Meta, a terrace over three region

At dawn, we will be protagonists in the beautiful scenery of “Pianoro Le Forme”, at the foot of Mount Meta and of the Mainarde mountain range. A strong emotional impact place, characterized by rugged and wild mountains, fascinating for those who live far from this kind of landscape. There will be a hike until “Passo dei Monaci” to try to spot deers and chamoises. In the afternoon visit to the historic centre of Barrea village and its fortified stronghold. In the evening there will be the end of the year dinner with the guides and celebrations.

Day 4Camosciara, on your tiptoes and with no hurry

A soft awakening will allow us to observe the “La Camosciara” Integral Reserve. This area of Abruzzo National Park is characterized by its apperance and its dolomitic structure; then, in a few hectares it has the main elements of this protected area. This is a real symbolic place and it’s fascinating in every season of the year. Then there will lunch with the guides in a refuge. Free afternoon. Dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5The ancient forest of Pescasseroli

In the morning, after a hearty breakfast, we will take a walk along a little sheep track that leads from the town to the ancient “Boschi della Difesa” woods. The trees have fabulous shapes and, with a little luck, it is possible to see foxes and roe deers. Then packed lunch and return to the valley in the early afternoon; taste of local products in the small shops of the historic centre. End of the programme and departure of participants.
